Hyperpigmentation

We offer hyperpigmentation treatments using our enlighten® PICO Genesis laser, C02re laser, IPL or photofacial device or chemical peels.

Though harmless, hyperpigmentation can cause a lot of stress. This term encompasses several aesthetic concerns like aging signs, sun damage, and an uneven complexion. Developing an uneven skin tone happens as people get older and incur sun damage. After a certain age, the appearance of darker skin, age spots, and blemishes can become more common.

If you’ve noticed an excessive amount of these issues and are looking for an effective solution, you’ve come to the right place. At Skin MD, we have a variety of treatment options for you to explore with our clinical staff.

If you’re interested, schedule a free consultation at a Skin MD location near you.

How Does Hyperpigmentation Occur?

Pigmentation issues occur when melanocytes begin to produce too much pigment in our skin. Having too much pigment causes skin issues such as spots or patches. These spots can appear just about anywhere. Hyperpigmentation from acne is also common in younger people and can have a big impact on a person’s self-esteem. The best thing you can do for your skin is to apply sunblock regularly. However, if you already have pigmentation issues, our treatments at Skin MD can help.

What Are the Signs?

The most common sign of hyperpigmentation is an uneven skin tone. This can present itself in the form of white, brown, or black patches on the face or body. Discoloration from acne can often be accompanied by pimples and scarring that could give your skin a bumpy texture. Aging signs such as wrinkles and fine lines may also develop as your skin loses quality over time.

Options for Treating Hyperpigmentation

Our enlighten® PICO Genesis or C0Re lasers offer relief from pigmentation issues in as little as 2-3 sessions on average. Most people report a slight warming sensation and pressure from the laser during treatment. Many patients do not feel any pain, but some discomfort may be experienced. If you feel uncomfortable, a topical anesthetic can be provided. The best part of this treatment is that no downtime is needed after the procedure.

Photofacials, or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)  treatments, can offer an alternative therapy for hyperpigmentation as well. During your consultation, we will explore all options and determine what the recommended treatment protocols are specific to your skin type, texture and tone combined with your personal aesthetic goals.
